Well-being

Being a grad student comes with challenges, and it’s important to take care of your mental health throughout your journey, and seek help when you need it. UW–Madison offers many resources, both on-campus and online, that are available to you as a Graduate Student.

  1. Individual Counseling. University Health Services (UHS) offers individual counseling in a confidential, caring space. Bilingual services available.
  2. Let’s Talk. Let’s Talk provides virtual, informal, 20-minute consultations with a counselor. These drop-in sessions are available each weekday. Topics can include– stress, sadness, relationships, academic performance, financial struggles, and/or family problems.
  3. Group Counseling for Graduate Students. UHS offers support groups for graduate students. This supportive environment is a great way to share experiences around the challenges of grad school with other grad students. These groups fill up very quickly, if you are interested in joining a group, contact the Mental Health Services at 608-265-5600 (option 2).
  4. Graduate Students of Color Group: This is a group for students who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or people of color. The group will explore ways in which identity affects academic, personal, and social experiences.
  5. Veteran Services:  Helping student veterans succeed. We recognize that student veterans sometimes have different needs from other students. This page has information on academic success, groups, child care, and other support.
  6. Elaine Goetz serves as the Graduate Student Assistance Specialist in the Office of Student Assistance and Support. This office assists students with a variety of concerns by working directly with them and connecting them to appropriate resources on campus.
  7. Health and Wellness at UW Madison: a list of wellness resources.
