Research Detail

Dr. Johannsen’s research interests include understanding the mechanisms by which EBV nuclear proteins allow the virus to establish life-long infection and contribute to human disease. His accomplishments include characterizing the protein composition of the EBV virion, publication of the first EBV protein-protein interactome, discovery of EBV LF2 as an inhibitor of viral replication, and elucidating the mechanisms by which a viral pre-initiation complex (vPIC) mediates late gene expression. He is a member of the McArdle Laboratory Viral Oncology Program Project, serving as a co-leader on two projects and director of the virus production core.
