The CMP Diversity Committees are committed to actively encouraging diversity within the CMP’s community of scholars and engaging in activities that inspire individuals from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds to choose careers in translational medical research. The committee actively evaluates admission statistics to assess and adjust recruiting methods to ensure diversity in the community of scholars. The committee seeks to promote diversity by recruiting students from marginalized communities and ensuring their success in the program. It also provides support to students and facilitates access to diversity and inclusion resources offered by the University. In addition, the Diversity Committee ensures that the speaker slate for the Pathology Seminar Series is diverse in nature and there is equal representation of historically underrepresented minorities. It also ensures that the students have an opportunity to discuss with the speaker previous experiences dealing with potential bias and career obstacles.
The mission of the CMP Diversity Committee is to inspire individuals from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds to choose careers in translational medical research.
Our vision is to establish an environment where the intellectual contributions and cultural heritage of every person is acknowledged and appreciated irrespective of their sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability, or other individual differences.
We will work towards our mission and vision by adopting the following strategies:
- Actively create a climate where everyone feels welcome, respected, and included.
- Carefully gather information on successful methods for recruiting students from historically marginalized groups and ensuring their success once they enroll in the Program.
- Facilitate access to the array of Diversity and Inclusion resources provided by the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
- Ensure that the speaker roster for the Pathology Seminar Series comprises individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds.
